This series makes me feel like I need to start keeping a book journal, so many characters, so many connections, so many pages! I love love this entire series, it’s so easy to get lost in the story, and lost throughout the story but still so freakin good! One day I’ll reread the entire greater series back to back, taking study notes along the way. I’ll admit I was a little taken aback by how much of the story was focused on romances, it kinda felt like the romantic connections were the story and the angelic battles going on were just happening around the story. Either way I was hooked the entire read.
I’m currently on book 1 of the next 3 part series of the shadow hunter chronicles, The Last Hours series, & wish more than ever that the tv adaptions hadn’t been so terrible. Cassandra Clare knows how to write an immersive story & I need to see it on screen, I just need it to be done well. These books are long, they all are, but that’s part of what makes them so good, every part of the story is laid out in detail so readers can really picture the scenes. Emma Carstairs & Julian Blackthorn are the main characters in this series, set in 2012 Los Angeles. They are parabatai & in love, which is of course forbidden & cursed. Emma is hungry for revenge, Julian is carrying many heavy secrets, some people are falling in love & others are conspiring secret plans. I want to give everything away, spoil both books completely for anyone who hasn’t read them yet, while at the same time not give too much because I want people to read them & enjoy the developing story as it develops. The underlying story within the story was progress, at least that’s how it felt to me. The younger generations of shadow hunters & magical folk not interested in reenforcing the walls of separation the clave ordered generations ago. Choosing instead cooperation amongst each other, choosing to help each other & work together for the betterment of all rather than upholding the established hierarchy. In the end there is a happy ending for Emma & Julian, a happy ending for all.

Although maybe not, the shadow hunter chronicles continue after all. Thanks for joining me for another book review, comment your thoughts below!
