This is by far going to be the most difficult review to write, to date, for me because it’s so hard to review without giving away a major part of what makes this book so good, & I refuse!

My Annihilation by Fuminori Nakamura
- Category – Japanese Adult Noir / Mystery Crime Thriller
- Length – 257 Pages
- Read Time – 4 Days
- GR Rating – 5 Stars
I will be reading this book again! I intend to read this book again on a day when I’ll have the free time to read the whole book at once, because it’s that good. It’s so hard to describe how this book is so good because to do so I’d have to give away the key & as I said above, I will not!
We begin the book without a name, we don’t know the characters until some time later, however from the very beginning we’re in the depths of it. Although, unaware of it yet.
This book is a story of revenge, of people hurt so deeply they were willing to forego their own lives in the name of retribution. It is a very fast paced story & extremely confusing until almost the very end. The book is written in a way where the reader has to rearrange the pieces to make sense of it all & without the key, good luck.
It wasn’t until around page 190 that I started to catch on to what was going on & piece the puzzle together. By this point I had the characters names, Mamiya, Kida, Yukari, Wakui, Kozuka & Yashimi, & was able to finally really see what was happening. It was at this point that I came to the conclusion that I’d have to reread the book in a day because my mind was blown! This is how you do a mystery thriller! MYSTERY THRILLER! I so badly want this as an anime & as a live-action movie, it’s so good. I can’t tell you more, I can’t because I shan’t give the key away. There are crimes committed, memories shared, stories retold, sadness, trauma & RETRIBUTION.
I’m not generous with my 5 star ratings, this book absolutely earned it.
Thank you for joining me for another review, I’d love to read your thoughts on my review & of course on the book too.
- Have you read this book?
- What was your favorite part? (The moment I pieced it all together)
