Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll

  • Category – Crime Mystery Thriller
  • Length – 384 Pages
  • Read Time – 2 Days
  • GR Rating – 4 Stars

This novel is an imagining of the real life crimes of Ted Bundy, set in 1970’s USA, we’re in Tallahassee Florida, at Florida State University when a heinous crime occurs. Our protagonist & narrator Pamela Schumacher takes us with her as she navigates the complex aftermath of finding her sorority sisters violently murdered in their rooms. Having seen the killer before he was able to make his escape Pamela has to contend with police who’re choosing to ignore a significant piece of her recounting in an effort to come to a quick resolution & as the story progresses to cover up their own mishandling’s & incompetence.

Pamela is startled awake at 3am, coming out of her room to check up on the house & her sisters, she finds lights on that shouldn’t be, stumbling upon a man in the house & catching a glimpse of his face from the shadows of the stairs as he fled. Finding 2 of her housemates dead & 2 others severely injured she wakes the rest of the house & they call the police. Having mentioned in her statement that she initially assumed the intruder was 1 of her housemate’s ex-boyfriend, the police latch on to him as the main suspect dismissing her further statement that after getting a full view of the intruders face she was sure it in fact was not him.

What follows is Pamela’s journey to get justice for her sisters & a violent serial killer behind bars where he can’t continue to hurt innocent people. Knoll’s story-telling will suck you in from the very beginning, I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Inspired by real events that happened leading up to & during the investigation into Bundy’s crimes, Knoll creates the story of a young woman who not only survives a serial killer in her home but is also the sole witness & determined not to let him get away with it.

Ultimately rated 4 stars, I really liked this book, at just under 400 pages & intense from start to finish its a quick read. Thank you for joining me for another review, I’d love to read your thoughts on my review & of course on the book too.
