Murder, but make it a little whimsy. Let’s review.

Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn
- Category – Crime Suspense Thriller
- Length – 368 Pages
- Read Time – 6 Months, 3 Days*
- GR Rating – 3 Stars
*This book did not actually take 6 months & 3 days of reading to finish, I had a lot going on at the time I was reading this book back in the summer of 2024, yes that’s how backed up I am on reviews, but anyway, a lot going on, busy busy & I fell into somewhat of a non-reading mood. I’d guess it was probably more like 5-7 days of actual reading.
Our main characters are Billy, Mary Alice, Helen & Natalie, 60 something year old women who happen to be professional assassins. As with all careers, retirement time has come but how does one retire from a clandestine international assassin organization. One does not. Betrayed from within the organization the women are forced to kill a few more for survival, & figure out a way to disappear so they can live out the rest of their natural lives.
“We always refer to it as “the Museum”, and we use museum nomenclature to make it a little less obvious to anybody listening in that our job is to eliminate people who need killing.” – Deanna Raybourn
After being put on the kill list people who once ‘worked’ alongside the women sought to collect on their bounties. Very capable of surviving these attempts they weren’t too concerned. They are skilled assassins & know that their age & gender make them invisible in ways they are clever enough to take advantage of. However, they don’t want to have to keep killing just to live. They want peace, they want to retire & enjoy their remaining lives, so they put together a plan to discover who is behind their bounties & disappear into new identities.
“That’s the thing about being a sixty-year-old woman—no one notices you unless you want them to.” – Deanna Raybourn
This book is part one of a series, part 2, titled Kills Well with Others, was published this year but I don’t think I’ll be reading it. While the story was good enough, light hearted despite being a crime thriller & the characters are likable it just didn’t pull me in.
Thank you for joining me for another review & as always happy reading.
Hasta la próxima – V
