Review: All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

I already KNOW the movie will absolutely not live up to the book!

THIS BOOK BROKE MY HEART!

All the Bright Places focuses on “Finch” & Violet, the story is told from both of their points of view.

Finch is quite obviously suffering from depression & is bipolar as well, but his friends & family seem to be oblivious to these facts. They chalk up his “quirky” behavior as ‘just Finch’. This annoyed me so much, I wanted to scream at his family & friends! HOW COULD YOU NOT SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING! Que maldito pike del diablo!! When Finch & Violet connect she is in the midst of a depression as well, she’s having a hard time dealing with her sisters death. She feels responsible for her untimely death, on top of simply missing her best friend.

Violet & Finch connect when they’re both standing on the ledge, literally. Finch talks her down even though he was just contemplating his own suicide as well. In classic YA novel fashion, Finch falls for Violet immediately & after some self-exploration Violet falls for him. He ropes her into teaming with him on a school project where they have to “discover the many wonders of Indiana”, their home state. During their wanderings around the state visiting its many attractions & landmarks their connection to each other grows. Finch helps Violet overcome the sadness of her sisters death & find herself again but continues to suffer his own demons in silence. Ella tanpoco lo ve. *insert eye-roll*

I was really hoping Violet would save him, I was hoping for someone in Finch’s life to see, really truly see & save him! In the end his demons won. *insert sob* I may have shed a tear or two for Finch & for Violet while reading this book. I desperately wanted a happy ending, DESPERATELY, but that’s not this story.

This book is powerful & touches very real subjects, that I believe are important to discuss!!

I give this book 4 stars & a few tears. Absolutely read this book!
